2024 in numbers
We have had an extremely busy 2024 with increased demand for all of our programmes, and a workshop humming with professional repairs. We repaired or serviced over 726 bikes, helping to cover our overheads and contribute to our charitable programme.
Our Bikeability team delivered Bikeability Level 1&2 courses to 1,072 children in Years 5 and 6. We also taught 123 children to ride a bike, and delivered advance training to a further 131 children giving them the skills and confidence to ride to secondary school.
Our amazing workshop volunteers refurbished 110 bikes and trikes that were then given away to local disadvantaged children, refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable adults. We also put 10 bikes at the Witney Hotel which houses people seeking asylum – these bikes have been used for thousands of local journeys by people for whom a bike represents freedom.
Our workshop teaching team delivered 691 hours of bike mechanics lessons to 28 young people currently struggling to attend school. In addition, our weekly youth mechanics drop in session is becoming increasingly popular with over 145 individual visits this year. 12 adults completed a build a bike course.
128 people with their carers or families attended Wheels for All sessions this year resulting in a total of 281 individual visits. We also delivered 26 Rusty Riders sessions providing fun and sociable rides for people new to or returning to cycling.
We have also been investing in our staff and volunteer team – 7 volunteers completed Cytech Level 1 training meaning they can sign off bikes as safe when they leave the workshop. 2 staff then completed training to Cytech Level 2 and E-bike modules making them better equipped to service bikes at the workshop and teach bike mechanics to clients.
Finally to cap the year off, Kath and Brigitte were included in Cycling UK’s 100 women in cycling.
Thank you to our volunteers, staff, funders, supporters, clients and customers – you are vital cogs in what makes WBP so special.
